Second Open House Night on Thursday
Stevenson will hold the second of its two parent open house nights on Thursday, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The school will follow a late arrival schedule on Friday, with classes beginning at 10:30 a.m.

AP Human Geography Teacher Co-Authors Study Guide
Advanced Placement Human Geography teacher Greg Sherwin is the co-author of Human Geography: People, Place, and Culture, an AP study guide newly published by John Wiley and Sons. This marks the second book for Sherwin, who co-wrote the AP Human Geography Teacher?s Guide for the College Board in 2007. His collaborator on both books was Paul Gray.

OMNI Drama Program Has Stevenson Connections
A youth drama program sponsored by OMNI Youth Services in Buffalo Grove enters its 18th year with new leadership that had deep roots at Stevenson. The REALITY Theatre?s new managing director is Janet Jesse, who formerly oversaw the Odyssey fine arts festival, and the artistic director is Melissa (Jacobs) Estes, a former SHS theatre teacher who helped start Odyssey in 1996. The ensemble roster, meanwhile, includes senior Samantha Gallagher.

PREP, Foundation Helping Job Seekers
PREP is offering a class to help people find a job. ?Job Search Techniques ? Tools for Success,? will be held on Wednesdays starting September 12 in Room 2612. The cost is $40, although the fee will be waived for Stevenson alumni. The class is being offered with the support of the SHS Foundation. To register, or for more information, visit the PREP web page. Earlier this summer, the Foundation sponsored a class for SHS alumni who are recent college graduates and trying to find their first job.

Boys Soccer
Stevenson 4, Zion-Benton 0: Toshiki Niimi, Max Klaber, Jared Moelaart and Jimmy Wang all scored goals for the host Patriots (6-1, 2-0). Klaber also had an assist, as did Joe Hugener and Alex Drexler. Goalkeepers Quentin Low (three saves) and Chris Boutros (one save) combined for the shutout. ? Daily Herald (linescore)

Girls Tennis
Stevenson 7, Vernon Hills 0: At the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex, the Patriots (7-0) won each match in straight sets. The winners in Nos. 1-3 singles were Kaylin Dong (6-1, 6-2), Vinaya Rao (6-1, 6-0) and Lena Adel (6-2, 6-1). The victorious Nos. 1-4 doubles entries were Liz Ettleson/Alexxis Kiven (6-0, 6-0), Caroline Kelmis/Michelle Tulchinskaya (6-1, 6-0), Ai Kashii/Gwendolyn Heidkamp (6-1, 6-0) and Janet Cheng/Bryn Rubin (6-1, 6-1). ? Girls Volleyball
Stevenson d. Zion-Benton, 25-11, 25-10: Jenna Radtke had eight kills, three aces and two solo blocks for the host Patriots (9-0) in their North Suburban Conference Lake Division opener. Alexa Bykowski served three aces to go along with 12 assists, while Anne Geocaris also had 12 assists plus four kills. Liza Pflugradt recorded seven kills and Khaila Donaldson had five. ? Tennis Team Near the Top
The SHS girls tennis team is ranked third in the Chicago Sun-Times? listing of the top teams in the Chicago area. Sophomore Kendall Kirsch and junior Alexxis Kiven are listed as two of the top players.

Poll Watching
Stevenson is No. 5 in the Daily Herald girls volleyball rankings, released Tuesday.

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

1995 Stevenson alumnus Brian Rohr, a professional storyteller, will perform during all lunch hours today in the West Auditorium. He will be sharing the oral tradition of telling old stories from around the world. Find out more information about Brian Rohr at brianrohr.com.

Interested in being a Peer Tutor in Math, Science or World Languages? A general meeting and orientation for new peer tutors will take place from 3:45 to 5 p.m. today in the East Glass Commons.

College Notes

Juniors and Seniors: College visits have begun ? Many colleges and universities have already scheduled a date to visit with Stevenson students.?The following colleges will be visiting Stevenson next week: Illinois Institute of Technology, Transylvania University, Tulane University, University of Connecticut, University of Tulsa, Ferris State University, University of Denver, University of Oregon, Kalamazoo College, Monmouth College, Indiana University, University of Illinois-Urbana, Quinnipiac University, University of Iowa, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Columbia College (MO), Iowa State University, Ohio State University, American University, High Point University, St. Olaf College, University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Case Western Reserve University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Drake University, Lehigh University, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Michigan State University, University of St. Andrews, College of the Holy Cross, and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Please come to the College/Career Center to sign up to see a college and procure a Blue College Pass, which needs to be signed by your teacher at least two days prior to each college visit.?A list of colleges visiting Stevenson can be found on the College/Career Center website under NAVIANCE-College-Visits as well as posted in the CCC (Room 1123).

Seniors:?Interested in Indiana University??SHS is able to nominate two candidates for the Wells Scholars Program, which is full tuition, academic fees and an annual living expenses stipend.?In the past, winners have been in the top 5% of the class with an ACT composite score over 30.?Applicants must not be applying to any other college restrictive early action or early decision plan.?Interested students should pick up an application packet from the College/Career Center (Room 1123).?The deadline to return the completed internal application to the College/Career Center is September 24.

Attention Seniors: Considering UNC-Chapel Hill? The Morehead-Cain Award, the oldest and one of the most prestigious scholarship programs in the country, recognizes well-rounded student leaders who demonstrate outstanding potential for leadership in high school, in college and beyond.?The Morehead-Cain Scholar is expected to be, in conduct and achievement, a superior citizen.?This merit-based award includes four years of tuition and expenses at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as fully funded summer enrichment programs that supplement academic study with off-campus travel and experience.?Stevenson is allowed to nominate one student from the Class of 2013.?Interested seniors may pick up nomination materials in the College/Career Center.?The deadline to return forms is Tuesday. Please know if selected, the nominee will need to complete and submit the Morehead-Cain application by October 1.

?Write Stuff? for Seniors: Would you like some assistance with your college essay writing or your personal statement? Mrs. Biemeret will be holding ?Write Stuff? essay workshops on:

Club Information

The Stevenson Chess Club will meet after school Thursday in Room 7022. New members are always welcome!

Future Educators of America will hold their first open meeting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 1714. Join them to learn more about their tutoring and teacher-shadowing programs.

Stevenson Debate will hold its first meeting Thursday after school in Room 6050. There?s no time to waste; the first tournament is in three weeks.

Do you like Photography? Graphic Design? Writing? Join the new Yearbook Club; we will meet in Room 2712 on Monday after school. Come for the free cookies, stay for the awesome! Contact Mr. Frieman (pronounced free-man) for more information.

Junior Class Board is meeting today and Friday after school in Room 2428. We are always looking for new members. Class Board is a great way to meet new friends, have fun, and earn community service hours. It is a very flexible club, and you can come once a week or more depending upon your schedule. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Rikje in Information Services or Mrs. Smith in Green Students Services. Please join us.

Future Doctors of America will begin meeting every Tuesday starting September 11 in Room 1704. We start at 3:35, so come join the medical team. Snacks will be provided.

Breakfast with Books will meet for the first time Tuesday, September 18, from 7:45-8:25 a.m. in Room 1313. All are welcome.

There will be a Photo Studio next Wednesday, September 12, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Room 6030.
