Jen and Spencer: Television.

I have a love/hate relationship with television. There is little in between. I can?t stand not knowing the ending. Cliffhangers make me sick. So I wait until shows are on DVD and Netflix. Then they can?t get me with cliffhangers.

And books? I can?t put them down. No matter how terrible they are. I have to know the ending. Spencer taught me to speed read, but it was still taking to much time. Which is why a few years ago I straight up switched to textbooks. Yes, you read that right. I read textbooks or self-improvement books for fun when I feel like reading. Mostly about personal finance and taxes. They may be boring to some, but at least there are no cliffhangers. I can put them down whenever I feel like it and they don?t consume my life or keep me from going to bed on time. And nothing in a finance book is depressing except anecdotes from people who don?t save their dolla billz and get themselves in trouble. And I actually get something out of it, you know (the books.. not the depressing anecdotes)? Some of that fiction stuff leaves me feeling sad.

I?m totally cool with being a nerd, by the way. I used to hide it, but now I embrace it.

At one point I was sick of reading about personal finance. So I start writing my own book. And I already know the ending (it?s a good one), so it?s cool to put it down and pick it up when I feel like it.

See how I?m embracing it?

I?m working on the whole moderation thing, obviously.

Notice how there?s still no console table underneath that TV. We?re probably overthinking it, right? It can?t be that hard to find one we like.

But let?s talk about TV. In this post I mention that I?ve given it up entirely for extended periods of time. I got a lot done. But I struggled finding ways to decompress. You know what I mean? When you come home at the end of the day all frazzled and just want to cry it out with the Biggest Loser contestants?

I?m a TV crash dieter. I watch too much and then I get frustrated (we won?t mention the night terrors) and just say to heck with it and cut it off completely (see the love/hate?). It?s the worst.

So what are blogs for if we don?t use them to announce that we?re going gluten-free, tv-free, shampoo-free, or 100% organic? So I announce that I?m becoming a moderate TV watcher. I don?t know what that means yet, but I?m sure I?ll figure it out.

Speaking of ways to decompress.. our friends had us over to help us conquer the Sunday night blues with a game night a few weekends ago (I?m really behind). Oh my ? have you played The Game of Things?? If you play with the right group it is the best. And this was the right group.

Game of Things

I think ?things women talk about when they go to the bathroom together? was my favorite category. Infectious diseases, nappy hair, leg shaving..

Pretty darn accurate, right?
