ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) ? The New Mexico Medical Board has exonerated an Albuquerque doctor who was accused of gross negligence in the abortion of a nearly 9-month-old fetus.
Anti-abortion activists who monitored 911 calls from the Southwestern Women's Options clinic filed a complaint against Dr. Shelley Sella in the case of a New York woman who sought the abortion in May 2011 after she found out the fetus had severe brain abnormalities.
The woman was not part of the complaint, but intimate details about her and her medical history were made public as part of the board probe.
The case highlights Operation Rescue's aggressive attempts to halt abortions and raises questions about patient privacy.
Sella's attorney, Molly Schmidt Nowara, called the decision great news for the women of New Mexico.
