DUNN?S MOUNTAIN ? This Saturday, Aug. 18, is a day of music on the mountain. From noon to 5 p.m., there will be continuous live music at Dunn?s Mountain Nature and History Preserve, 1740 Dunn?s Mountain Road.

Admission is free; bring lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic lunch. There are picnic tables at the top, as well as drink and snack machines at the top.

The festival is held at Unity Presbyterian Church, 885 Woodleaf Barber Road.
Two PPT auditions
The first auditions of the 2012-2013 season for the PPT production of The Color Purple, will be held at the Meroney Theater on Monday, Aug 20 and Tuesday, Aug 21, at 7 p.m. on the third floor. Production dates are Oct. 25-28, 31 and Nov. 1-3. Meroney Theater, 213 S. Main St.

Poetry, short stories, art, photography, etc. are being accepted for Muse & Spirit, a tri-annual publication of The Center for Faith & the Arts.
Written entries must be typed; submit original work or high quality digital image; for material to be returned, send addressed envelope with sufficient postage; format work as you want it printed. If submission has been published previously, send information so that credit can be published.
Submit through e-mail or mail. Submission deadline for the October issue is Sept. 15.

Helmet awareness day
In memory Of Jonah Kelly King, there will be a police escorted benefit ride on Saturday, Aug.18, all proceeds from which will benefit families and children that need helmets.
$15 per motorcycle, registration from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., kickstands up at 1 p.m.
The ride goes from Salisbury Tilley Harley Davidson to Statesville Tilley HD and back.
This family friendly benefit features Dunk-A-School-Official; hot dog, chips and drink for $5; a silent auction; tshirts and from 3-6 p.m., live entertainment by the Chris Marks Band.

BTS supplies event
EAST SPENCER ? From 10 a.m. until, on Saturday, Aug. 18, Workers of the Vineyard are sponsoring skills basketball camp for middle school, high school and elementary students, plus a 3-on-3 tournament, all part of the free school supply, clothing and food giveaway to be held at the Royal Giants Park.
There will also be hair cuts for the guys; hairstyling for the girls by Danielle Walker, Arell Mason, Shay Gaither and Kathy Willis; ice cream and activities for kids including a bounce house.
Introduction to acting
CONCORD ? Old Courthouse Youth Theatre will hold ?Introduction to Acting? workshops for students age 8-18. Nancy Brewer is Lizzie
CONCORD ? Nancy B. Brewer performs as ?Lizzie? from the pages of Brewer?s books on Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
The performance entitled ?Memories of the Old South,? will include civil war reenactors and period music, and feature highlights from Brewer?s new book ?Lizzie After the War,? set in Concord, NC in the years 1867-1893.

Pfeiffer concert series
MISENHEIMER ? On Sunday evening, Aug. 19, Pfeiffer University is re-launching Sunday Night Alive with a live concert by the band Ohio Avenue, at 6 p.m. in the Henry Pfeiffer Chapel.

Blues fundraiser
From 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Aug. 25, the Looking Glass Artists Collective black box theater will host a fundraiser for Rowan Blues and Jazz Society.
There will be line dancing contestants, food and festive beverages and guest bags. Tickets are $6 at the door or two for $10 sold online at www.rowanbluesandjazz.org
LGAC is located at 405 N. Lee St. in the Railwalk Arts District. Proceeds go to support the Annual Blues and Jazz Festival in October.
Salisbury Swing Band
The Salisbury Swing Band Combo will be featured at the Knights of Columbus Dance on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 537 NC 15 (Business) in Denver.

CHARLOTTE ? The Charlotte Museum of History and the Hezekiah Alexander home site have temporarily suspended public operations while working toward a new operating model for the historic home and grounds.
